Should Petrol Cost R10 a Litre?

    ByRiaan Roux 8 October 20268 October 2026

A video claiming South Africans should pay around R10 a litre for petrol is circulating again after 95 petrol rose to R30.25 a litre in Gauteng on 7 October 2026. The R10 in that video is the 2021 cost of the fuel at the harbour, not a pump price, and today that part alone costs R17.44. Tax and levies add R7.46 a litre, and that is the part of the price the ANC-led government decides. On the same day the price went up, the ANC’s own MPs asked an ANC finance minister to cut those levies.

Amazon runs a business development programme in South Africa that only admits companies which are 100% black-owned, and it has told Solidarity that South African law required this of it. Are investors skipping South Africa? The BEE hurdle nobody in government wants to price

    ByRiaan Roux 15 August 20267 October 2026

South Africa is spending less than half of what the ANC’s own National Development Plan says the country needs on building factories, plants and machinery, and manufacturing was the only sector in the economy to go backwards in the first 3 months of 2026. At the same time, a government investigation has found that the…

Naspers, the JSE-listed company behind News24 publisher Media24, holds most of its market value inside a single asset, a stake in Chinese technology group Tencent. In January 2025, the United States Department of Defense added Tencent to its list of Chinese Military Companies under Section 1260H of federal law, and confirmed that designation again in…
